EIN for Non-Residents — Get Your US EIN Without an SSN

Your US LLC cannot open a bank account, verify Stripe or file its IRS returns without an EIN. The IRS online portal is closed to foreign owners — we prepare and file Form SS-4 through the IRS channels built for applicants without an SSN, and deliver your official EIN letter digitally. What Is an EIN?

The US tax ID your business runs on

An EIN (Employer Identification Number) is a nine-digit federal tax ID the IRS issues to a business entity — think of it as your company's identity number in the US system. It is issued to the company, not to you personally, and it stays with the company for its entire life.

Even if your LLC never hires a single employee, you will need its EIN at almost every step after formation. Forming the LLC is only step one — the EIN is what makes the company usable.

🏦

Open a US Business Bank Account

Mercury, Wise and US banks ask for your EIN during the application. Without one, a foreign-owned LLC's account application cannot move forward.

💳

Verify Stripe, PayPal & Marketplaces

Payment processors and platforms such as Amazon ask for the business EIN to verify your company and its tax information.

🧾

File Your IRS Returns

A foreign-owned single-member LLC must file Form 5472 with a pro-forma Form 1120 every year — and that filing is made under the LLC's EIN, even with zero income.

📄

Contracts & Invoicing

US clients, suppliers and partners routinely ask for your EIN on W-9 substitute forms, contracts and onboarding paperwork.

🧑‍💼

Hire & Pay People

If you later hire US employees or contractors, payroll and reporting run under the company's EIN.

🛡️

Keep Business & Personal Separate

An EIN lets the business operate under its own tax identity instead of the owner's personal details — cleaner books, cleaner compliance.

The Non-Resident Problem

Why foreign owners can't just apply online

The IRS's online EIN application looks simple — but it requires the responsible party to have an SSN or ITIN and a US legal residence. If you are a non-resident founder, the system stops you before you even start. There is no workaround inside the portal.

Foreign applicants are expected to apply the older way: by completing Form SS-4 and sending it to the IRS by fax or mail, writing "Foreign" where an SSN would normally go. That route works — but the form has to be exactly right:

  • The LLC's legal name and formation date must match your state formation record character for character
  • The responsible party section is where most foreign applications go wrong
  • Sending a duplicate application while one is already processing can slow everything down further
  • Your foreign address must be entered in the format the IRS expects for international applicants

This is exactly the part we handle for you — 40–50 of these applications a month ran through the formation department our founder previously headed, so the common rejection and delay causes are checked before your form is ever filed.

Already filed an SS-4 yourself and heard nothing? Tell us on WhatsApp before filing again — a second application for the same entity can create a duplicate-EIN problem that is much harder to fix than a slow first application.
How It Works

Your EIN in four steps — all over WhatsApp & email

1

Free Consultation

Message us on WhatsApp. We confirm your LLC is formed (or form it first) and give you an honest EIN timeline and exact price before you pay anything.

2

We Prepare Form SS-4

We complete the SS-4 using your formation documents and owner details, and share it with you to review before filing — nothing goes to the IRS unseen.

3

Filed With the IRS

Your application is filed through the IRS fax channel for foreign applicants, and we follow up if the IRS requests anything further.

4

EIN Letter Delivered

Your official IRS EIN confirmation letter (CP 575) is delivered to you digitally, along with guidance on where you will use the number next.

What we need from you: your LLC's formation certificate (Articles of Organization), the owner/responsible party's full legal name and foreign address, and basic details about what the business does. No passport mailing, no US address of your own, and no SSN — if you formed your LLC with us, we already have most of this on file.

Honest timing: foreign-owner EIN applications are processed manually by the IRS, so timelines vary with IRS workload and cannot be guaranteed by anyone. We give you a realistic estimate for your case up front and keep you updated while it is in progress.

Don't Confuse Them

EIN vs ITIN — which one do you need?

They sound similar, solve different problems — and many non-resident founders eventually need both.

FAQ

EIN questions foreign owners ask us

Can I get an EIN without an SSN as a non-resident?
Yes. An SSN is only needed for the IRS online application. Foreign owners apply with Form SS-4 through the IRS fax and mail channels set up for applicants without an SSN. We prepare and file that form for you, and your EIN confirmation letter is delivered to you digitally.
Do I need a US address to get an EIN?
No. A foreign-owned LLC can use the owner's foreign address on Form SS-4. Your company does need a registered agent address in its formation state, which is separate from the EIN application and which we arrange as part of formation.
Should I form my LLC before applying for an EIN?
Yes. For an LLC, the company must exist first — the EIN is issued to the formed entity, and the name and formation date on Form SS-4 must match your state formation record exactly. Applying before formation, or with a mismatched name, is a common cause of IRS delays.
What document will I receive as proof of my EIN?
The IRS issues an EIN confirmation letter (CP 575). We deliver it to you digitally as soon as it arrives. If a confirmation letter is ever lost, a replacement verification letter (147C) can be requested from the IRS.
Is an EIN the same as an ITIN?
No. An EIN identifies a business entity; an ITIN identifies an individual who is not eligible for an SSN. Foreign LLC owners usually need an EIN for the company first. Some owners also need an ITIN later for personal tax filing or for verifying accounts such as Stripe and PayPal.
How long does an EIN take for a foreign owner?
Foreign-owner applications are processed manually by the IRS, so timelines vary more than for US applicants and can change with IRS workload. Before you pay, we give you a clear, honest estimate for your specific case and keep you updated while it is in progress.
